Wilmer LeNora Siler

Wilmer LeNora Moffitt Siler was born Monday, October 20, 1919, to Dora Spinks Moffitt and Robert Henry Moffitt in Randolph County, NC. She departed her well lived life at her home on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Wilmer was the oldest of five children and was educated in the local schools of Chatham County where she met her soulmate Russell Henry Siler. They were married on January 29, 1937. Together they reared three children, one being her baby brother Larry Moffit.

Wilmer’s love for children made her pursue a daycare certificate from George Washington Carver College in 1958. She opened a home daycare that operated for a year. 

Wilmer was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church where she was active in the Missionaries, Ushers Ministry, Choir, Junior Church, Deaconess Ministry, Sunday School, and Bible study. She loved sewing, baking, and taking care of children.  Wilmer was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Friendship Chapter 521 and was past emeritus of the Moffitt Poole Ladies Auxiliary Post 277.    

Wilmer worked in the dry cleaning and textile industries.  She retired from Burlington Industries in 1984.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Russell, and all her siblings, Allie, Bettye, Robert, and Larry.

She is survived by her daughters Annie Christopher and Cyd Anderson; three granddaughters, Yvette Cheek, Brittany and Autumn Anderson; seven great grandchildren, Marquis, Alexis and Hannah Headen, Joshua Siler, Warren, Cali and West Gordon; her special children Barbara Davis, Deborah Harley,  Sharol Siler, Terisa and Leforice (Lee) Walker, Jr.;  three sister in laws, Elizabeth Moffit, Brenda Siler and Clara Siler; one brother in law, Jimmy Siler, three nephew/grandsons, Tommy, Christopher and Larry Moffitt and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. 

Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 20th, 2024, at First Missionary Baptist Church, at 2 PM. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church with burial following in church cemetery. Service will be officiated by Reverend Barry Gray.

Smith and Buckner Funeral Home will be assisting the Siler family.
