Ray William Phillips, 79, of 17821 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst. Mr. Phillips was born in Chatham County on November 2, 1932 the son of Ollie Frances Gaines He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, a poultry and tobacco farmer and a retired truck driver. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Bill Phillips. He is survived by his wife: Shirley (Harrison) Phillips, two daughters: Sylvia Sharpe and husband, Johnny Ray of Bear Creek, NC, Ann Campbell and husband, Greg of Bear Creek, NC and one son: Andy Phillips and wife, Michelle of Sanford, NC; one sister: Louise Gilchrist and husband, Charlie of Bear Creek, NC; one brother: Lester Gaines and wife, Faye of Angier, NC; grandchildren, Stacy, Tracy, Matthew, Zach, Trevor, Austin, Raegan, Braden and a great-grandson , Colton. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 6:30-8:30 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 3:00 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 17721 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Online condolences may be made at www.pughfuneralhome.com.
