William Hugh Thornburg, 92, of Siler City died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro. Mr. Thornburg was born November 17, 1919 the son of Grady Lee and Lydia (Lassiter) Thornburg. He was a graduate of NC State University with a B. S. in Animal Husbandry, and a B. S. in Agricultural Education and completed graduate studies in Agricultural Marketing. After graduation from college, Hugh taught at Biscoe High School in Montgomery County. He then joined Allied Mill of Illinois and was affiliated with the poultry industry until his retirement from Cargill of Minnesota. He served in the Army during World War II serving combat duty in the South Pacific area. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Hugh was a former director of the North Carolina Poultry Federation and a former director of Riverside Golf Club. Mr. Thornburg was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Siler City. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 64 years; Tillie(Paul) Thornburg; three daughters: Cynthia T. Hughes of Siler City, NC, Terri T. Leith and husband, Stan Fritts of Raleigh, NC, Lois E. Thornburg and husband, Richard Chapman of Wilmington, NC; one brother: Hoyt L. Thornburg of Raleigh, NC; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two nephews. A memorial service will be Friday, May 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City with Rev. Clyde Denny officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, May 4, 2012 following the memorial service at First United Methodist Church.
