William Franklin "Bill" Herring, 73, Siler City died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his residence Mr. Herring was born in Sampson County on September 1, 1939 the son of Autry and Lottie (McLemore) Herring. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Siler City where he served on the finance committee. He retired from Southland Life Insurance and became the owner and Principal of Chatham-Hackney-Herring Insurance & Real Estate in Siler City. He was a member of the Siler City Rotary Club, served on the Chatham Hospital Board and the Siler City Planning Board. Bill was an avid golfer and fisherman. He is survived by his wife: Patricia (Boyd) Herring and two sons: Alec Herring and Charles Herring; one sister, Margaret H. Raynor and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday, February 1, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at First Baptist Church, 314 N. 2nd Ave., Siler City, NC. A memorial service will follow at 12:30 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Capehart and Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Memorials may be made to West Chatham Food Pantry, 126 Village Lake Road, Siler City, NC 27344 or to Chatham Cares Community Pharmacy, 127 East Raleigh Street, Siler City, NC 27344.
