Obituary

Virgil Lee Hunt Jr., 81, of Siler City, North Carolina, peacefully entered eternal rest on July 4, 2026.

Born on May 19, 1945, in Randleman, North Carolina, Virgil was the beloved son of the late Virgil Lee Hunt Sr. and Mary Everhart-Hunt. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth and Claire.

Virgil graduated from UNC Charlotte and enjoyed a distinguished career as an Electrical Engineer for many years. After his engineering career, he continued his life's work of serving others by supporting the individuals and dedicated staff of Chatham County Group Homes. Whether through his profession or his personal life, Virgil believed in helping people, offering encouragement, and making a meaningful difference wherever he was needed.

For the past 27 years, Virgil shared a loving and devoted marriage with his wife, Martha Moore-Hunt. Together they built a life grounded in faith, love, compassion, and family.

Anyone who knew Virgil knew a man of quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and genuine compassion. He found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time on the golf course, reading a good book, and serving others as a hospice volunteer. His generous heart, gentle spirit, and willingness to help those in need touched the lives of many.

Faith was the cornerstone of Virgil's life. He was a proud and faithful member of Corinth AME Zion Church, where he worshipped faithfully, sang in the Men's Choir, and served as Superintendent of Sunday School for several years. His dedication to his church reflected the same compassion, humility, and servant's heart that defined the way he lived each day.

Above all, Virgil cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and friend whose love, wisdom, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 27 years, Martha Moore Hunt; his sons, Todd Hunt (Christina) and Barry Hunt (Jennifer); his stepchildren, Maria Jordan-Mason (Antonio) and Jaie Jordan; his grandchildren, Garrett Hunt and Elliott Hunt; his cherished step-granddaughter, Jordan Jeppé; and a host of extended family members, church family, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness and compassion.

A funeral service celebrating Virgil's life will be held on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026 at Corinth AME Zion Church in Siler City, where he faithfully served and worshipped for many years. The Public Viewing will begin at 1pm and the funeral service will begin at 2pm, with burial to follow at Chatham Memorial Park.

The Hunt family extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, love, and support during this difficult time. Although Virgil's physical presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith, service, compassion, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
