Ruth Pike Burke Crabtree, 85, wife of the late William "Bill" James Crabtree, passed away Saturday evening, February 25, 2012, surrounded by family. She was the daughter of the late Seawell Carr Burke and the late Olive Pike Burke. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sylvania Elizabeth Burke. Ruth is survived by three daughters: Donna C. Cash and husband, Ken; Denise C. Currin and husband, Joe; and Dawn C. Jackson and husband, Gary all of Chapel Hill, NC. She has ten grandchildren: Chris and Mark Cash, Candace Currin White, Patrick, Suzanne, and Brandon Currin and Kendall, Will, Brandon, and Rachael Jackson and eight great-grandchildren. A native of Chatham County, she retired from UNC-Chapel Hill after 32 years of service. Ruth was a member of The Women's Fellowship of the Southern Convention of Congregational Christian Churches. She was a member of Damascus Church for 67 years where she served as Sunday School teacher, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Director of Bible School, Director of Youth Fellowship and Church Librarian. Funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Ernie Keck on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Damascus Church. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Following the committal service in the church cemetery, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall, and at other times at the residence. Flowers are welcome. Memorials may be made to Damascus Congregational Christian Church Sunday School, 522 Damascus Church Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. Arrangements are by Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, NC.
