Robert Palmer Murchison, 82, of Sanford, went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025, at home surrounded by family.

Robert was born on July 4th, 1942, in Wake County to the late Gus Palmer Murchison, Jr. and Margaret Wilson Murchison. He is preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Robert Tucker Grimes.

After high school, Robert joined the Marine Corp where he served for four years. After serving his country, he went on to work as a guard in the North Carolina Prison in Raleigh. Following that, he decided to change pace and went to work as a loan officer with the First Union National Bank. After his time at the bank, and then he worked Murchison Grocery. Finally, he retired from being the new account manager for J.T. Davenport & Thomas, & Howard Food Distributors. Robert was a member of Goldston Methodist Church, he was an avid golfer, he loved reading, spending time with his family traveling and going to the beach. He and Sunny enjoyed having sleepovers with their granddaughters, Melissa & Maggie, eating crazy snacks and candy. He also loved chasing trains with his grandson Tucker. He loved making memories with all of his family.

Left to cherish Robert’s memory is his wife of 59 years, Sunny Fields Murchison; his two daughters, Angie M. Tally and her husband, Dennis, and JoAnn M. Carpenter and her husband, Keith; his two granddaughters, Melissa Harward and her husband, Andrew, and Maggie Tally; his sister, Susie Gaines and her husband, Willis; and his great grandson, Henry.

Graveside memorial services will be held Sunday, June 1st, 2025, at 3 PM, at Goldston Memorial Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Reverend Kerry Wood and Reverend David King.

The family would like to send special thanks to the First Health Hospice for the care of Robert in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Friends of the Goldston Library, PO Box 175, Goldston, NC 27252.
