Obituary

Pearl Maness Hargrove passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, May 7, 2026. She was a woman of strong faith who loved the Lord, her family, and her church.

Pearl was born on May 20, 1936, in Chatham County. Pearl enjoyed the simple things in life and was known for her love of quilting and vegetable gardening. She spent many hours working in her garden, caring for others, and making quilts and homemade vegetable soup for those she loved. She also enjoyed sending cards to people for birthdays, illnesses, encouragement, and times of loss, always wanting others to feel remembered and cared for.

Pearl had a special love for cats, and no stray ever went hungry around her home. Over the years, several found not only food but a permanent place in her heart and home, including her special companions, Smokey and Prince.

She was a longtime Sunday school teacher and enjoyed working with children at church through the years. Her kindness, steady presence, and caring nature touched many lives.

Pearl is survived by her son, Lynn Hargrove and wife, Paula; granddaughter, Morgan Hargrove; and grandson, Graem Hargrove. She is also survived by her sisters, Rosa May Beal of Wilmington, Betty Frye, of Pittsboro, and Joan Thomas of Broadnax, VA.

Pearl will be remembered for her faith, her love for family, and the quiet way she cared for others. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Luchain Marvin and Mary Lillian Dunn Maness; her husband, Robert Elwin Hargrove; sisters, Laura Taylor and Ann Dunn; and brothers, Jack Maness, Dean Maness, Marvin Maness, and Russell Maness.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Plainfield Friends Meeting at 2:00 PM with Wayne Lamb officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will take place in the fellowship hall after the funeral.
