Mildred Emery Culberson (85) of Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Siler City went home to God and her family with her loved ones by her side on Friday, March 18 at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, NC. Mildred was born on August 2, 1930 to Lebern and Estie Emery in McMinnville, TN. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mildred was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church where she was active in the Bible Sunday School class, Trailblazers, and served on many committees through the years, including PPRC, benevolence, a Junior MYF counselor when her kids were small and was in charge of deserts for the annual chicken supper for many years. She also was a quilter and helped make many quilts for the UMW to sell at the annual Harvest Sale. For many years she worked at Sol Enterprise in Siler City and retired from Carol’s Cake and Catering. She then became a homemaker. Mildred was the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that she could possibly be. She babysat all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and made a wedding cake for each of her grandchildren. At age 70, Mildred started taking art classes and has many paintings that she did. She also made quilts for all her family, crocheted, made birthday cakes, loved flowers and going to the beach. She instilled a love of God in her family through the generations. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, two half-brothers, Bert, Thurman and Horace and one-half sister, Lena Emery. Also, two brothers, Durward and Virgil Emery, a sister, Betty Ruth Ritter,and her beloved son-in-law, Barry Rhodes. Her family was her everything. She is survived by her husband of 64 years: Joseph S(Joe) Culberson; two daughters: Geraldine C. Rhodes-Amos and husband, Walt, Jeanette C. Marsh and husband, Jimmy, also four grandchildren, Dustin Rhodes (Stacey), Kami Rhodes Long (Robert), Charlie Marsh (Kim) and Brad Marsh (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Bryce Marsh, Blake Marsh, Eve Long and Davis Rhodes. The funeral will be held Monday, March 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Piney Grove United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Jim Folks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors at all times at the home of Geraldine Rhodes-Amos, 4606 Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Donations in her memory may be made to Piney Grove UMC Van Fund, or to The Gideon's International..
