Maxola Elkins Gilbert, age 90, of Bear Creek died Sunday, March 11, 2012. Funeral services will be at Brush Creek Baptist Church Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 2:30 PM with Rev. Patrick Fuller and Rev. Alan Stanley officiating. She was born May 27, 1921 to the late Riley W. and the late Blanche (Wilkinson) Elkins. She was a homemaker and an active member of Brush Creek Baptist Church; a member of the Sunday School and WMU. She, previously, was an active member of a Chatham County Home Extension Club. She enjoyed quilting and crafts. Also, she enjoyed gardening and sharing it with her friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Gilbert; a brother, Eugene Elkins, and a son-in-law, Linuel Efird. She is survived by three daughters: Linda G. Peace and husband, Thomas of Pittsboro, NC, Dorothy G. Efird of Siler City, NC, Daisy G. Nelson and husband, Richard of Sinking Spring, PA and one son: Joseph A. Gilbert of Bear Creek, NC; grandchildren, Joel Peace, James Peace (Robin), Karen Jozwiak (Matt), Steven Nelson (Amanda),Joshua Gilbert (Emily); great-grandchildren, Rebekah and Shelby Peace, Alex, Ryleigh and Evan Jozwiak, Natalie Nelson, Kayla, Jeremy, Haleigh and Emma Gilbert. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 13, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC and other times at the home of Dorothy Efird, 403 West Tenth Street, Siler City. Memorials may be made to Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Operating Fund, C/O Judy Lane, 45 John Lane Road, Bear Creek, NC 27207
