Mary Daye Hinson Mertens, 92, of Siler City, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, at her home surrounded by loved ones.
Mary was born on September 18th, 1933, in Chatham County, to the late Lewis Hinson and Mossie Murray Poole. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands, Herbert “Jeep” Daye and Herbert Lee Mertens, and her brother, Harold Hinson, Sr.
Mary worked in the distribution center at Kellwood for 57 years. She was West End United Methodist church’s oldest member. Mary loved spending time with her church family. Her family was her biggest love. She loved spending time with them and making memories. In her spare time, she liked to watch the Carolina Hurricanes hockey games and General Hospital soap operas. Left to cherish her memories are her son, Richard ”Ricky” Daye and his wife, Sharon of Wake Forest; her daughters, Linda Kidd and her husband Jerry, and Kathy Bray, both of Siler City; her grandchildren, Auman Daye, Chad Davis and his wife, Tara, Kristen Daye Davis and her husband, Adam, Patrick Bray and his wife, Rebecca, Mitchell Boone and his wife Emily, and Michael Boone and his wife, Angela; her step grandchildren, Heidi Kidd Faucette and her husband, Travis, Nicholas Kidd and his wife, Suzanna, and Conner Dove and his wife, Lily; her six great grandchildren; and her five step great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, December 14th, 2025, at 2 pm, at Oakwood Cemetery in Siler City. There will be a visitation at Smith & Buckner Chapel from 1-2 pm prior to the service. Services will be officiated by Pastor Dennis L. Boone.
The family would like to give a special thanks to her beloved caregiver, Pam White.
