Mary Ruth Cooper

Mary Woodruff Riggs Cooper, 82, went home to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, July 29, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Cooper was born January 29, 1935 to Click and Bessie Woodruff and was raised in Mt. Airy, NC. She moved to Guilford County after marriage and raised a family. She later remarried and moved to Chatham County where she lived until her passing. She was a member of Center United Methodist Church. She was always happy to share her faith and loved teaching children's Sunday School as a young adulthood up until recent years. Mary was loved by everyone who knew her and touched the hearts and lives of so many people throughout her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Those who preceded her in death are her parents, her husband, Lonnie Riggs, sisters, Dorothy Lawrence, Edna Easter, brother, Frank Woodruff, grandson, Ray Riggs and mother-in-law, Porter Hale.

Mary is survived by husband: James W. Cooper, sons: Steve Riggs and wife, Mary, David Riggs and wife, Jennifer, Thomas Riggs; daughters: Carolyn Riggs Myers, Susan Riggs Kitterman, stepson: Gary Cooper, stepdaughter: Sherry Foust and husband, Charles, sisters: Retha Quesinberry, Betty Southern, Ann Lee Page, Norma Haynes, Sandra Byrd, in-laws: Robert "Bob" Cooper and wife,  Sandra, Don Hale and wife, Brenda, numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Center United Methodist Church, 9204 Center Church Road, Snow Camp, NC 27349. The funeral service will immediately follow with Rev. Garrett Rea and Rev. Jason Dickerson officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Memorial Park at 2:00 pm in Greensboro.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice of Chatham County.
