Obituary

Mark Christopher “Chris” Murchison, 55, passed away on May 16, 2026, leaving behind a family and community who loved him deeply and will miss him beyond words.

Chris spent most of his life in Silk Hope, North Carolina, where he was raised on a farm alongside his family. Growing up, he learned the value of hard work early in life, spending countless mornings milking cows before heading off to school and sports. He attended Jordan-Matthews High School, where he played both basketball and baseball and built lifelong friendships and memories that he carried proudly throughout his life.

Chris’s love for baseball continued into college, where he played all four years at Barton College. Athletics were a huge part of who he was, not only because of the competition, but because of the teamwork, discipline, and relationships the game brought into his life.

Professionally, Chris worked for D.H. Griffin Company as a project manager. He was known for his strong work ethic, leadership, and dedication to the people he worked alongside. No matter where life took him, Chris remained someone others could count on.

More than anything, Chris will be remembered for the kind of person he was. He had a heart bigger than life itself and never hesitated to help someone in need. Whether it was offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or simply showing up when someone needed him most, Chris gave so much of himself to the people around him. To know him was to know generosity, compassion, and unconditional love. He truly would have given anyone the shirt off his back.

Chris also had an unforgettable personality and sense of humor. He had a way of making people laugh no matter the situation and could light up a room with his story telling and slow southern accent. He made people feel welcomed, valued, and seen. His laughter, jokes, and ability to connect with others are memories his family and friends will carry forever.

One of Chris’s greatest joys in life was coaching. He loved working with kids and poured his heart into mentoring and encouraging them both on and off the field. The impact he made on so many young lives will continue for years to come through the lessons he taught, the confidence he built in others, and the care he showed every child he coached.

Chris was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Glenn Murchison and his mother, Mary Neil Lindley Murchison.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sally Murchison; his children, Christopher Murchison, Mary-Grace Murchison, and Matthew Murchison; his brother, David Murchison and wife Nikki; his sister, Jennifer Rogers and husband Josh, his mother-in-law Marie Crocker, along with many extended family members, friends, former players, coworkers, and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing Chris lived a life full of love, laughter, hard work, and genuine kindness. His presence made this world brighter, and his memory will continue to live on in every life he touched.

The funeral will take place at South Fork Friends Church on Saturday May 23rd. Viewing will be from 1:00-2:00pm, service will begin at 2:00pm, and family will receive guests at the fellowship hall following the service.
