Obituary

Margaret Johnson Hough, 89, of Siler City, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Cambridge Hills in Pittsboro.

Born September 12, 1937 to Eulas and Lillie Johnson, she grew up in Siler City alongside her nine brothers and sisters. Her life was rooted in faith, family, hard work, and a generous heart. A lifelong member of Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church, now The Journey Church, Margaret found comfort, strength, and joy in reading God’s Word.

Margaret was a devoted Christian who loved sharing the message of Jesus Christ with others. Her faith remained steadfast throughout her life. Even during the advanced stages of dementia, she never lost her love for her Savior or her desire to speak of Him.

For many years, Margaret raised her two sons as a single mother, providing for them with remarkable strength, determination, and unconditional love. She instilled in them faith, integrity, hard work, and respect for others, values that helped shape them into accomplished men in business and, more importantly, men of character. She later met the love of her life, Floyd Hough, and they shared more than 35 wonderful years of marriage.

Margaret worked for more than 50 years at Kellwood Hosiery in Siler City, remaining with the company through its later years as Glendale Hosiery. She was known for her compassion, generosity, and readiness to help anyone in need. Her phone often rang with calls from family, friends, and neighbors who knew they could count on her for encouragement, wise advice, and a listening ear. She rarely met a stranger and was a cherished friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eulas and Lillie Johnson; her husband, Floyd Hough; her brothers, Herman Johnson, Rexford Johnson, Herbert Johnson, Roland Johnson, and Paul Johnson; and her sisters, Ruby Abee, Magdalene Gaines, and June Carol Easter.

She is survived by her sons, William “Bill” Brower and his wife, Catherine, of Dawsonville, Georgia, and Craig Brower and his wife, Kendra, of Silk Hope, North Carolina; her stepdaughters, Mary H. Buchanan and her husband, Gary, and Colleen H. Avery and her husband, Don, all of Morganton, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Allen, Carolyn, Kayla (Elliott), Zack, and Forrest (Morgan); her great-grandchildren, Daniel, Levi, Asher, and Lucy; and her sister, Doris Tallent and her husband, Rev. James Tallent.

Margaret will be remembered for her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, her love for Scripture, her strength as a mother, her loyalty as a friend, and her caring heart. Her legacy lives on through the family she loved and the many people whose lives she touched.

The family will receive friends from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, at The Journey Church, 17475 US Highway 64, Siler City, NC 27344. A celebration of life will follow at 3 p.m., with Pastor Jerry Foley officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Siler City. Friends are also welcome to visit with the family at the home of Craig and Kendra Brower in Silk Hope on Saturday and Sunday, October 31 and November 1.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to International Alliance for Mercy (IAMERCY), this mission organization.led by mom's nephew, at https://www.iamercy.org.
