Katie Ward Darnell

Katie Ward Darnell, 86, of Bear Creek passed away July 29, 2022 at her home.

Katie was born May 23, 1936, daughter of Carl Bud and Lacy Hart Ward. She was a member of Meroney United Methodist Church. Mrs. Darnell worked for many years at JS Water's Elementary School where she assisted in the school cafeteria as well as drove a school bus. She enjoyed collecting light houses, working word puzzles and watching game shows on TV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jessie Earl Darnell, and brothers, Delmas and Burnis Ward.

Mrs. Darnell is survived by her daughters; Linda Darnell Mitchell of Pittsboro and Donna Darnell Crowe and husband James of Goldston; son, Ricky Darnell of Sanford; grandchildren, Brandy, Josh, Jason, Danielle, Samuel and Joshua; great-grandchildren, Saylor, Colton, Dalton, Emmaline and Branson; and brother, Carl Ward.

The family would like to send a special thank you to their Mother's wonderful caregivers, Lois Mintor and Roberta Alston.

A graveside service for Mrs. Darnell will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Meroney United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Jim Whittaker officiating.
