Judy Weaver Morris (age 79) of Stafford, Virginia, and formerly of Siler City, North Carolina, died on 11 October 2025 after suffering an inoperable brain bleed.
She was born on 26 August 1946 and soon afterward was adopted by her parents, Rosa Mae and Cecil Weaver of Siler City. She married John G. Morris, Jr., of Siler City in 1967, and together they graduated from Campbell College (now Campbell University) in 1968. Then she began to teach fifth grade for thirty-two years in the Chatham County Public Schools, earning several awards for excellence in teaching and serving in various roles of leadership. She was also a member of the local Alpha Pi chapter of Dela Kappa Gamma, an international professional honor society for women educators. After retirement, she helped to found and operate the West Chatham Food Pantry (now part of the Chatham Outreach Alliance/CORA Food Pantry).
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Siler City, where she served as a member and chair of the Board of Deacons, member and chair of the Board of Trustees, Sunday school teacher (including many years with the Judy Morris class for young adults), head of the Women’s Missionary Union, head of the Baptist Women, and member and leader of her women’s circle group.
A year after her husband’s death in 2016, she relocated to Stafford, Virginia, in order to live with her son and his daughter. She became active at Aquia Episcopal Church, where she was involved with the Aquia’s Table hot-meals ministry, the Episcopal Church Women, and the Saints Mary and Martha guild. Among her relatives dying before she did were her parents, her husband, and her brother and his wife, Tommy and Diana weaver.
Survivors include her son, the Reverend Jay Morris, and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Morris, both of Stafford, Virginia; her sister-in-law and her husband, Amber Morris King and Jack E. King of Leesburg, Virginia; and several cousins and nieces and their families.
Two memorial services will be held: one on Saturday 8 November 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Aquia Episcopal Church, 2938 Richmond Hwy, Stafford, with the Reverend James Rickenbaker officiating; the other on Saturday 22 November 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 314 N. Second Ave, Siler City, with the Reverend Dr. Allen Admire and the Reverend Jim Wall officiating. Visitation will be held at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 N. Second Ave, Siler City, on Friday 21 November from 4:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m.
