Joshua Nathanial “Josh” Hancock passed away Friday, February 13th, 2026, at the VA Medical Center in Durham, NC after a long battle with alcoholism. He was 50 years old.

Josh was born on October 8th, 1975, in Burlington, NC to John Laws Hancock and the late Cynthia Taylor Hancock. He graduated from Agape Christian Academy in Mebane, NC. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years as a jet engine mechanic. He later forged a career as a skilled electrician.

Josh loved hunting and fishing and spending time in nature. He was an avid reader, and he was a loyal companion to his dog, Buster, who rarely left his side.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Cindy Hancock. Josh is survived by his beloved son, Nathaniel “Nate” Hancock; his father, John Laws Hancock; and his brothers, Jason Hancock and Shawn Hancock and their families. He was blessed to have a faithful friend since childhood, Daniel King. He also leaves behind extended family and friends who will cherish his memory.

Josh’s son, Nate, was his favorite person in the world and he was so proud of him. Nate will always be grateful for the time spent with his father. He misses him terribly, but he is grateful for the time that he spent with him, whether it was watching a movie, or riding the countryside, or just being together.

There will be a private memorial service for Josh on March 21st, 2026, in Graham, NC.
