Jean Voncannon Phillips 56, of 16123 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill. Mrs. Phillips was born October 21, 1955, the daughter of William Jenkins and Dorothy (Ferguson) Voncannon, Sr.
Jean was a native of Chatham County and had been a nurse's aide. She was a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School and attended CCCC. Jean attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church, and loved to read, watching food channels and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony W. Phillips, a granddaughter, Gabrielle N. Phillips.
She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Phillips of Graham, NC; a son, Daniel Phillips and wife, Heather of the home; grandson, Cid Phillips; brothers, William J. (Billy) Voncannon, Jr., of Siler City, NC; Greg Voncannon of Talbott, TN., and Tommy Voncannon of St. Petersburg, FL.; sisters, Anne Voncannon of Dunedin, Fl., and Linda V. Swartout of St. Petersburg, Fl.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 4, 2011 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC., and other times at the home of Loumis and Barbara Phillips, 16155 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek, NC. The graveside services will be Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 17721 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek, NC with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating.
