Obituary

Mary Jane Fields Owens, 78, of Goldston, died Saturday, April 25, 2026.

Jane was born in Chatham County on January 6, 1948, to Aubrey Jackson and Mary Bronna Cheek Fields. Jane loved her family, especially the grandsons. She enjoyed going shopping and other times sitting and watching mysteries and detective shows. Her most favorite thing to do was cook for both her family, her community, and eating Fly Pies or any sweets she could get her hands on.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Tammy Kirkman and husband, Wade; son, Keith Owens and wife, Tamara; grandsons, Jonathan Hensley and wife, Ashley, Kent Owens, Jackson Owens, and Alex Owens; and brother, Eddie Fields and wife, Pam.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rufus K. Owens; and her sister Audrey F. Holt.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home from 6 -8pm The funeral service will take place at Antioch Baptist Church, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 3:00 pm. with Rev. Bob Wachs and Rev. Josh Conrad officiating. Burial will follow at Goldston Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family is requesting in lieu of flowers; donations be made to Goldston Fire Department, PO Box 432 Goldston, NC 27252 or Bennett Fire Department, PO Box 115 Bennett, NC 27208.
