Don Thomas, 70, of 1353 Joe Brown Road, Bear Creek died Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at The Hospice House of Randolph County in Asheboro.
Mr. Thomas was born May 23, 1942 in Chatham County to Thomas Jesse and Georgie Estelle (Jennings) Thomas.
He was retired as a purchasing agent from Basic Metals. He was a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church. He loved his grandchildren and spending time with them. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, reading and playing games on his computer. He was the # 1 Tarheel fan and enjoyed watching all the games on T. V. His favorite past-time was being at Wal-Mart where he would sit on the bench and associate with employees and customers. He enjoyed talking with people and made many friends over the years and loved to visit Wal-Mart where he would sit on the bench and associate with the employees and customers. He made many friends over the years, some was as close as family. If he wasn't at home, he could surely be found at Walmart.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lib Thomas; one son: Eric Thomas and wife, Tina of Lexington, NC; daughter-in-law, Candy Poe Thomas, wife of the late Jeff Thomas of Graham, NC; beloved pets, Felix and Sassy Thomas; one brother, Bill Thomas and wife, Doris of Siler City, NC; two sisters, Betty T. Phillips and Helen T. Beck and husband, Welford both of Staley, NC; grandchildren, Jessica and Makayla Thomas of Graham, Rebecca Benfield and husband, Jesse of Thomasville, and Brandon Hatfield of Lexington; several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate the life of Mr. Thomas on September 8, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Brush Creek Baptist Church, 5345 Airport Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Brian Biggers officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the memorial service and inurnment at the church.
Monetary memorials may be made in memory of Don Thomas to The Hospice House of Randolph County at 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203. Floral contributions will received at the funeral home.
