Jack Gregory Henson II, 42, of Siler City went home to be with Jesus October 8, 2026.
Jack was a country boy at heart. He loved the simple things in life, working hard, helping others, and being surrounded by the people and things he loved. He was a proud farm owner who enjoyed bailing hay and working cows which he learned from his Pawpaw Gilliland as a child. Hard work was nothing new to Jack. He grew up working in his family’s automotive repair business, Downtown Automotive, and eventually became the owner, continuing a family tradition built on hard work, honesty, and serving others.
But to know Jack was to know that he was about so much more than his work. He was humble to his core, always downplaying his talents, his abilities, and even his good looks. He never sought the spotlight, wanted recognition, or expected praise. He was simply Jack, and he was perfectly content being just that.
Jack had a generous heart and a way of helping people that went far beyond what was expected. Through his work at Downtown Automotive, he helped countless customers, often putting their needs ahead of his own. When someone asked how much they owed him, his familiar response was often, “Don’t worry about it.” And he meant it. Whether it was driving to someone’s house to change a tire, jump-start a vehicle, replace a battery, or simply check something out, Jack was always willing to lend a hand. He didn’t do these things for recognition or repayment. He did them because that’s just who he was.
Jack was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, and he didn’t have to think twice about it.
His kindness was matched only by his warm smile and friendly nature. If you knew Jack, chances are you were greeted with a big wave and a familiar, “Hey, how you doing?” He had a way of making people feel welcome, whether they were longtime friends or simply someone he happened to know around town. He was a friend to many, a familiar face in the community, and someone people genuinely enjoyed being around. He wasn’t just a local business owner; he was a community favorite and an all-around great guy.
Beneath his humble nature and easygoing personality was a steady faith in God. Jack knew the Lord, and his faith was a quiet but meaningful part of who he was. He lived a life that reflected the values of hard work, kindness, generosity, and caring for others. He didn’t need grand gestures or big words to show people what mattered to him. He showed it through the way he lived and the way he treated others.
Jack leaves behind his parents, Greg and Pam Henson of Siler City; his sister, Emily Henson Pellitt, and her husband, Aaron of Bishop, Georgia; nephews, Kyle and Wyatt and step grandmother, Dottie Gaines Henson. He also leaves behind countless close friends, many of whom became more like family along the way.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Ruby Gilliland and Jack and Dot Henson.
The loss of Jack leaves a space that cannot easily be filled. He will be remembered for his humble spirit, his generous heart, his unwavering willingness to help, and that familiar smile and wave that made an ordinary day a little brighter. His legacy isn’t measured by what he owned or what he accomplished, but by the people he helped, the friendships he built, and the lives he touched simply by being himself.
Jack was one of the good ones. The kind of man who didn’t need attention to make a difference, who showed his love through his actions, and who made his community a better place just by being part of it.
He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved by the many people fortunate enough to have known him.
Rest easy, Jack. You’ve left your mark on this world, and you will never be forgotten
