Gary Tyson Howard

Gary Tyson Howard, 76, of Bear Creek, passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Bear Creek on Monday, February 13, 2023.

Mr. Howard was born in Chatham County on November 1, 1946, the son of Roy Lee and Peola Tyson Howard.

Gary was a proud US Army Veteran. He was a member of the Solid Rock Baptist Church. Gary was an avid golfer. He cherished his family, and getting to spend time with his grand and great grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family at the lake on the boat. In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his sister, Leitha Glosson and brother, Jackie Howard.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sarah Josey Howard; daughter, Christy Howard (Philip) of Liberty; sons, Carl Poe of Bear Creek, and Gary Lee Howard (Traci) of Snow Hill, Maryland; grandchildren, Cody Poe, Christian Sirls (Katye), Zach Poe (Megan), Josey Moody (Ethan), Hannah Bray (Zach), and Tyson Poe (Jenny);  great grandchildren, Ali, Presley, Emaline, Lincoln, Hadley, Elowyn, and Nixon; and sister in law, Brenda Howard.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Tanisha Graves, Leigh Anne Lee and Chaplain Grinnell.

Memorials may be made to the Amedysis Hospice of Burlington.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Solid Rock Baptist Church, 3903 US Hwy 64 E, Pittsboro, with Rev. Jerry Sanders and Chaplain David Grinnell officiating.
