Doris Adelaide Pope Tant, 92, of Pittsboro, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, March 17th, 2026, at Transition LifeCare in Raleigh, surrounded by family.

Doris was born in Durham on September 18th, 1933, to the late Julius Dwight and Zada Inez Howard Holleman. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert Edward Tant, Sr.; her first husband, Robert Lee Pope; her stepson, Hubert Edward Tant, Jr. and his wife, Barbara Tant; her sisters, Eva Mae Holt, Alma Smith, Madeline Hudson, Mary Alice Luther, and Inez Sessoms; her brothers, Marvin Holleman and J.D. Holleman; and her step grandson, Chris Tant; and several nieces and nephews.

Doris worked in banking as a bookkeeper. She loved cooking and sewing, especially quilting. She liked being outside gardening. Doris loved to go fishing. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family.

Left to cherish Doris’ memory are her two sons, Michael Alan Pope of Knightdale and Victor Lee Pope and his wife, Terri of Sanford; her daughter, Jill Pope Cagle and her husband, Jerry of Pittsboro; her stepdaughter, Sonja Ruth Huff and her husband, Fayette Clayton of Fayetteville; her grandkids, Laura and her husband, Russell, Brad and his wife, Brittany, Cameron, and Connor; her step grandchildren, April and her husband, Alan, and Jennifer and her husband, Warren; and five great grandchildren and multiple step-great and step-great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Monday, March 23rd, 2026, at 2 pm, at Chatham Memorial Park. Services will be officiated by Steve Moore.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home will be assisting the Tant family.
