Doris Ann Johnson Ellington, 85, Siler City died Thursday, November 2, 2017 at her home .Mrs. Ellington was born January 11, 1932 the daughter of Wade Hampton and Annie White Johnson.
She is survived by son: Mark Ellington and wife, Jeannie of Siler City; grandson, Zack Ellington and wife, Heather of Greensboro, sisters: Linda J. Sipe of Bear Creek and Kathryn Frazier of Liberty, and brothers: Don Johnson of Bear Creek, Hugh Johnson of Silk Hope, Billy Howell Johnson of Graham, and Warren Johnson of Greensboro. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, J. Willard Ellington; and brothers: Glenn, Gary, Herbert and Bruce Johnson.
She was a member of Moon's Chapel Baptist Church where she taught the adult ladies Sunday school class, sang in the choir, served as missionary advocate for many years, thoroughly enjoyed acting in church productions. Doris enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, fishing, cooking, baking, movies, and reading. She loved going to both the beach and the mountains. Doris loved to joke, have fun and laugh. She worked at Chatham Hospital as a nursing assistant and later volunteered there with the Rotary Bazzarr. She went back to school to be a cosmetologist. Later becoming a second grade teacher's assistant at Siler City Elementary, which is where she retired. She took Tae Kwon Do and received her blue belt. Doris was an active member of the community, where she was involved in many clubs and organizations such as the Red Hat Club, the Rotarian Committee, and the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, 175 Moon's Chapel Rd, Siler City. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Chatham County Council on Aging or Moon's Chapel Baptist Church New Building fund.
