Obituary

Dewey Thomas Lovette, 99, passed away June 7, 2026, in Elizabethton, TN.

Tom was born May 29, 1927, in Bladen County, NC, son to the late Gilbert Norman Lovette and Bertha Bryant. He worked in textiles and was a shuttle mechanic. Tom loved farming, gardening, and catching fish. He was great with his hands and used to build bird houses and dog houses, especially for his hound dogs. He was most loving, had a kind heart and never seemed to meet a stranger.

Including his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria S. Lovette; two of his brothers, Leo Lovette and Jimmy Lovette; his sisters, Josephine Perley, Clara Gillis and Barbara Holder; sisters-in-law, Frankie Lovette, Lillian Lovette and Ginger Lovette; and his brothers-in-law, Allen Perley, Raymond Gillis and Dan Holder.

He is survived by his brother, Robert Lee Lovette, of Elizabethton; his sister, Betty L. Jones (Sam), of Conway, SC; nieces, Cynthia Thornton (Steve), Sandra Lovette, Lisa Lovette (and partner Benny), Mary Jo Roberts, Patsy Freeman, Debbie Benson and husband, and Wanda Jean Gillis; along with nephews, Marty Lovette, Sammy Lovette, David Freeman, Chris Freeman, Kirt Jones, David Jones, Donnie Gillis, Buster Gillis and Allen Themes.

A visitation will be held from 11-12:30pm, Saturday, June 20th, 2026, at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, NC.

The funeral will follow at 12:30pm.

Burial will be held at 2:00pm at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's & Shriner's Hospitals.
