Danny Lewis Hancock, Sr.

Danny Lewis Hancock, Sr., 68, of Goldston, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at his home.

Mr. Hancock was born in Chatham County on January 21, 1954, the son of Roy and Doris Cheek Hancock.

Danny was a 1973 graduate of Chatham Central High School. After retiring from Townsend, he started his own lawn care business, Hancock Lawn Care. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he served on the Building and Grounds Committee, Cemetery Committee and Fellowship Committee. He was also a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, Meshach's Carpenters-Volunteers in Mission among many other things. Danny was a dedicated community volunteer, serving on the Goldston Lions Club, helping cook for the Chatham Central Athletic Boosters, and assisting with the town parades. He served as a Traffic Officer, and Safety Officer for the Bonlee Fire Department. Overall, he had over 20 years of service with Bonlee Fire Department. Danny enjoyed being outside, from fishing at the coast to camping at Camp Clearwater, White Lake. He loved cooking, woodworking, and working on lawnmowers. Danny was a member of Pack 900 Boy Scouts, and loved playing Church League Softball. Danny loved sitting down for a good nap in his recliner. Danny is preceded in death by his parents. 

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Donna Boggs Hancock; daughter, Crystal Hancock Mishoe and husband John of Goldston; son, Danny Lewis Hancock, Jr. of Goldston; sisters, Ann White, Sue Brewer, Jean Dowdy and husband Russell, and Bonnie Scott and husband Ronnie, all of Goldston; grandchildren, Christian Steven Tyler Hancock and wife Tyler of Eagle Springs, John Colbe Evans, Chandler Lewis Ray Evans, and Collin Lee Evans all of Goldston; great grandchildren, Dawson and Avery Hancock; several nieces and nephews, and many children that he claimed as his own.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 28, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 N. Second Ave., Siler City. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Antioch Baptist Church, 3825 Bonlee Carbonton Rd., Goldston, NC with Rev. Doug Griffith and Rev. Mike Garner officiating.
