Clyde Reid Perry, Sr., died Thursday, April 26 at his home surrounded by family members. He was born October 31, 1925 in the Silk Hope Community and spent his entire life there except the two years he served in Europe during World War II. He attended Silk Hope High School and Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, and after his marriage, he attended The Siler City Chapel. He owned and operated C. R. Perry Poultry Co., Inc. and had business interests in a hatchery, feed mill and processing plant. He was one of the founders of the Silk Hope Volunteer Fire Department and served as the first Fire Chief for many years. He was a member of the Silk Hope Ruritans and was active in the Old Fashion Farmers Day Celebration each Labor Day weekend where he could always be seen serving homemade ice cream and chatting with friends as they stopped by. He enjoyed time at Badin Lake boating, skiing and in later life watching his beloved grandchildren enjoy the water. He was predeceased by his parents, Aycock and Annie Smith Perry; two sisters, Marlene P. Davis and Ruth P. Minor. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elaine Hancock Perry; one son, Clyde Reid Perry, Jr. (Chip) and wife, Diane; grandchildren, Clyde Reid Perry III (Chip), Casey Perry, Jamie Smith and husband, Joey; sister, Joyce P. Clark of Greensboro , brother-in-law, H. A. Davis and a special friend, Mary Lee Moore. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344. The funeral is Sunday, April 29 at 3:00 PM at Mt. Vernon Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Those conducting the service are Dr. Tommy Steele, Rev. Brian Wellborn and Rev. Steve Stutts. Serving as pallbearers will be nephews and neighbors. Memorials may be made to the Siler City Chapel, c/o Jimmy Cranford, 697 John Emerson Road, Siler City, NC or Mt Vernon United Methodist Church, c/o Robin James, 2058 Arthur Teague Road, Siler City.
