Chester “Buster” Joseph Pegram, age 73, passed away peacefully at his home on December 23, 2025, in Pleasant Garden, North Carolina.
Buster was born on May 8, 1952, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late Edward Elijah Pegram and Mary Elizabeth Newby Pegram. He was raised in the Catholic faith and carried those values of compassion, generosity, and kindness throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved granddaughter, Sierra Pegram; his sisters, Monica Pegram, Mary Ann Hodgin, and Patricia Simmons; and his brothers, Benedict Pegram, Michael Pegram, and Roger Pegram.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Cynthia “Cindy” Nunn Pegram, of the home; his sons, Chester “Buster” Joseph Pegram, Jr. of Climax, Christopher Elijah Pegram (Jeri) of Liberty, David King of Greensboro, and Christopher King (Lauren) of Browns Summit; his daughter-in-law, Abigail Pegram of Snow Camp; his sister, Sarah Haynes of Randleman; his brother, Steven Pegram and wife Janice of Reidsville; his grandchildren, Miranda Agee, Samantha Hylton, Jewel Lineberry, and River Pegram; and his great-grandson, Lennox Hylton. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Forrest Pegram and Carol Pegram; his brothers-in-law, David Simmons and Joe Hodgin; many loving nieces and nephews; and Gary and Rita Nunn, with whom he shared a special bond.
Buster was proud of his accomplishments during his management tenure at Cone Mills, White Oak, and was a member of the American Legion, Post 81, Liberty. Known for his sharp wit, quick comebacks, and signature sarcasm, he brought laughter to those around him.
Above all, Buster loved his wife and family. He enjoyed riding his Honda VTX, spending Friday nights with his Dry Dock family, and time with his favorite felines, Sammy & Socks. Generous and compassionate, he quietly performed countless acts of kindness throughout his life. A Celebration of Life will be held at Rocky River Baptist Church, Siler City, NC, on Saturday, January 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM. The family will see family and friends after the service at the church fellowship building. Services will be officiated by Reverend Jason Dickerson and Dr. Greg Burris.
