Carolyn Jean Miller Powell

Carolyn Jean Miller Powell, 82, of Siler City, NC, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, surrounded by many family members at UNC Chapel Hill.

Carolyn was born on May, 12, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Charles Samuel and Pauline Rose Noll Miller. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jerome “Jerry” Kenneth Powell, and her granddaughter, Sydney Ellyn Powell.

Carolyn worked as an accountant and office manager in Greenville, NC and then in Raleigh NC. She retired early and traveled extensively with husband Jerry. She was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and served as the minister coordinator at St. Julia's Catholic Church. Carolyn loved spending time with her family and friends, dancing, and cooking. She won the National Pillsbury Bake Off when she was 13 years old.

Carolyn leaves her daughters, Theresa Williams and her husband Dennis of Pittsboro, NC, and Dorinda Denise Powell-Adams and her husband Larry of Albuquerque, NM; her son, Kenneth Powell and his wife, Jessica of Pfafftown, NC; her grandchildren, Christina Williams and husband Tarek, Holly Lento and husband Jay, Liann Dubon, Angela Williams, Angel Powell, Matthew Powell, and Destiney Powell; nine great grandchildren; and her sister, Paula McNeary of Cleveland, Missouri.

An open visitation will be held Monday, June 9, 2025 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, which includes a Rosary recitation at 7:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 10:00 AM, at St. Julia Catholic Church in Siler City. Burial will follow the service Tuesday at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.
