Carl Roe Gaines, Jr.

Carl Roe Gaines, Jr., 75, of Goldston died Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Siler City Center. Mr. Gaines was born in Chatham County on September 14, 1941 the son of Carl R. Gaines, Sr. and Laura (Stinson) Gaines. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a barber, operating a shop in Sanford for several years. Carl enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Medlin Gaines; his parents; brothers, Victor, David and George Gaines; sisters, Cora Tillman, Josephine Brewer, Gola Hunter and Kate Wilkie. He is survived by one daughter: Carla Gaines Wilkie and husband, Eddie of Siler City; one son, Carl R. Gaines, III (Trae) of the home; four sisters: Myrtle G. Wilkie of Goldston, Ruth G. Carty of Sanford, Iola G. Phillips and husband, Bruce of Lexington and Joyce G. Wicker and husband, Jack of Sanford; three brothers: Hubert Gaines and wife, Peggy of Carthage, Homer Gaines and wife, Toni of Atlanta, GA and Eddie Gaines and wife, Elaine of Siler City; grandchildren, Justin Childress, Tyler David Gaines, Dustin and Shannon Wilkie; great-grandson, Easton Childress. The family will receive friends Friday, March 10, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church, 3825 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Goldston with Rev. Mike Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
