Billy Burt Clapp, 95, of Durham, went to his Heavenly home on Monday, May 18th, 2026, at his home with his wife by his side.

Billy was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on September 21st, 1930, to the late Billy Clayton and Floyd Sigmon Clapp. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Elizabeth Holder; and his brother, Clayton Clapp.

Billy worked for Nello Teer for 40 years and Gregory Pool for 20 years. He volunteered at Animal Park at the Conservator Center in Mebane and Hope Reines for kids with crisis in Raleigh after retiring. He loved to travel a lot.

Billy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shelvy P. Clapp of the home; his daughter, Tonya Ellis and her husband, Rufus of Smithfield, NC; his son, Jack Clapp of Buxton, NC; his granddaughter, Ashley D. Moore and her husband, Chris; and his four great grandchildren, Cameron Depree, Zoey Depree, Lily Liles, and Zander Liles.

A graveside service will be held Friday, May 22nd, 2026, at 11 AM, at Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home will be assisting the Clapp family.
