Barbara Oldham Cook, 82, of Siler City went to her heavenly home Thursday, July 26, 2018. Mrs. Cook was born in Chatham County on July 9, 1936 the daughter of Wilbur C. and Josie (Phillips) Oldham. She was an active member of Bear Creek Baptist Church where she had taught children's Sunday School, served on the Social Committee and sang in the choir. Barbara was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening, cooking, and watching sporting events, especially UNC Tar Heels. She also worked as a bookkeeper in her husband's business, Cook's Plumbing and Heating. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Cook; her parents; brothers, W. C. Oldham, Frank Oldham; sister, Juanita Oldham; half-sister, Allene Rayle.
She is survived by daughters: Sandra Raines (Tony) and Pam Fields (Eddie); son: Jerry Cook (Brenda); brother: Joe E. Oldham; grandchildren, Wendy Johnson (Chris), Dana Scott, Justin Fields (Rae), Kyle Fields (Morgan); great-grandchildren, Ashton Rollins, Aidan and Sawyer Johnson, Jase and Max Fields; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Cook and Becky Oldham; brother-in-law, Claude Cook (Inez); half-sister, Madeline O'Neal.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 4:00 PM at Bear Creek Baptist Church, 1278 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Bob Wachs and Rev. Val Chadwick officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to UNC Hospice or the NC Baptist Children's Home.
